About me
Nick Haisman-Smith (he/him) is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of The Institute for Social and Emotional Learning and a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Bristol, focusing on SEL and Educator Belonging. Nick is a seasoned educator having taught upper-elementary through to high school in the UK, South Africa, and the USA. At the core of his vision for SEL in education are the beliefs that SEL must be rooted in equity and school culture, and that schools must take a whole-community approach to make SEL sustainable. He has presented and run workshops for schools, school districts, universities, and conferences around the world, including The Sunday Times Festival of Education, Talks at Google and the SEL Exchange. His specialist areas of interest include Middle and High School SEL, the development of Advisory programs, and Conflict Resolution and Restorative Practices. Nick is the host of the podcast ‘SEL Cast’ and his latest publication is a chapter in the book “Social-Emotional Learning: Strategies, Development and Educational Impact” published by Nova Science Publishers.
